American Waterjet Robotics
During Summer 2023, I worked as a CNC Operator and Programmer at American Waterjet Robotics, a company focused on manufacturing high-pressure waterjet tools and robots for shipyard clients across the world.
My Work:
In addition to manufacturing parts and CNC mills and lathes, I have developed new processes that have increased the efficiency of production tremendously.
Reduced operation time on 7 parts by between 15% and 95% with an average reduction of 56%
Already decreased total machine run time by over 1015 hours
Accomplished through analyzing the production process and implementing Lean Manufacturing processes such as eliminating unnecessary movements and standardizing tools required
Designed custom jigs that allowed for faster production and higher quality results
Helped create and implement an inventory management system that allows the company to better schedule machine time and reduce backorders
Part of code I wrote for new, more efficient machining
Technical Skills Learned:
Knowledge of manufacturing processes such and CNC milling and plasma cutting
Understanding of the benefits of different materials such as choosing between different alloys of aluminum or selecting a hardness for stainless steel
Ability to program CNC machines both by hand and with CAM software
Soft Skills Learned:
Ability to think critically and devise unique solutions to manufacturing issues that company has struggled with for years
Teamwork and communication with other employees to learn what processes could be improved and collaborate over potential solutions
