Powerhouse Air

I was introduced to the Powerhouse team, a company specializing in the paintball industry, at the beginning of 2024, and I spent 6 months designing and prototyping a portable pressure regulator tester. This industry-first device will allow top players across the country to validate and optimize the performance of their paintball regulators at competition.

Being the first device of its kind, I first set about learning from people at Powerhouse about the needs of paintball players and crafting a vision for what the product would look like. We decided on a large touchscreen, pressure transducer, solenoid valve, and battery pack as the main components of this product. I then prototyped the UI, embedded software, and PCB design on the electrical side.

From there, I packaged all of the components into a rugged case that can withstand the environment of paintball competitions.

The end result is a device with significant interest from players, and we are currently ramping up production to bring it to market.

There were a lot of challenges I encountered along the way, and I learned a lot about C++ and PCB design from this partnership with Powerhouse. From trying to develop robust communication between the screen and microcontroller to handling power distribution on the PCB, I acquired skills in electrical engineering and embedded systems.
